Mission: Impossible 8 Trailer Release Date Teased By Simon Pegg (2025)

Mission: Impossible 8 star Simon Pegg teases the impending release of the film's trailer. Tom Cruise returned as superspy Ethan Hunt last year for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, which featured the introduction of an AI villain called the Entity. Cruise is set to reteam with franchise veteran director Christopher McQuarrie for the currently-untitled eighth film, with the Mission: Impossible 8 story expected to continue the Entity storyline. Though originally set to bow in theaters in June 2024, the film was delayed and is now scheduled to release in May 2025.

During a recent Instagram live Q&A video (via @tweetyenergy), Pegg receives a user comment stating that his character, Benji, is "the best," prompting Pegg's off-screen daughter to bring up Mission: Impossible 8. "Just you wait," she says, enthusiastically, "because the new trailer for Mission: Impossible is coming out soon." Pegg then chimes in, confirming that the trailer will indeed be arriving in the near future, teasing that it's likely attached to a major upcoming release:

“Yes, it is. There will be a trailer for Mission: Impossible quite soon. Probably attached to a large release coming up. That’s all I’ll say.”

What Simon Pegg's Update Means For Mission: Impossible 8's Trailer Release

What Upcoming Movie The Trailer Is Likely Attached To

While "quite soon" is relatively vague, and could mean anywhere from this week to three months from now, the fact the Mission: Impossible 8 trailer is tied to an upcoming release certainly narrows it down. It's possible that Pegg is referring to Venom: The Last Dance, which is due out on October 25. It seems far more likely, however, that the movie in question is Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2. This movie, which hits theaters on November 22, shares a target demographic with Mission: Impossible 8.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning ends on a cliffhanger setting up what's to come. We break down the film's ending & what's next for Ethan.

December will see the release of big movies like Kraven the Hunter, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Mufasa: The Lion King. While all are anticipated titles, Gladiator 2 remains the kind of title most likely to feature the Mission: Impossible 8 trailer. Plus, Gladiator 2's release date comes about six months before the release of Mission: Impossible 8, and this kind of timing is typical of big blockbuster marketing strategies.

Mission: Impossible 8 will feature the return of Cruise, Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, and Shia Whigham, among others. Newcomers include: Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Holt McCallany, and Katy O'Brian.

Our Take On Mission: Impossible 8's Trailer Release

The Trailer Could Answer Some Big Questions After Dead Reckoning's Poor Performance

Reviews for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning may have been glowing from critics and audiences alike, but the film wasn't a massive box office success due to its high, COVID-inflated budget of $290 million. The marketing for the upcoming eighth film, then, really needs to grab potential audiences' attention, making the new installment one that can't be missed in theaters.

After the underperformance of Dead Reckoning, it's possible that the story for the eighth film will have pivoted from what was originally planned. The Mission: Impossible 8 trailer will seemingly address this, providing a better idea of where Ethan's story goes from here and whether it will be the last installment in the franchise. In any case, it's likely that audiences have only about a month left to wait before the trailer is made public.
